mustardbeer

Longmont, Colorado based Oskar Blues Brewery has teamed-up with one of North America’s most popular condiment brands to create a unique new beer. Is this a ploy by Big Mustard to insert a new flavor profile into the snacking world? Or is this fantastic brewery just adding one of the world’s best garnishes to their already delicious beer? Today we review the limited release French’s Mustard Beer.

Released August 1 for $20 including shipping, the Ski and Brew Review team was lucky enough to snag a 6 pack of these tropical wheat beers before they sold out. The taste is fairly fruit forward and going in blind I would NOT have guessed mustard. By subtly adding this vinegar-based delight, the beer was not overpowered and drank like a generously seasoned hefeweizen.

French’s Mustard Beer is an excellent execution of adding quirky, strong tasting ingredients to beer without dominating the flavor. While we would have preferred a kolsch, pilsner, or less tropical wheat beer, this smooth 5.2% alcohol ale is a great choice for a summer cookout.
